"Public safety officials said in interviews with The Hill that the election, which will end with either the nation’s first black president or its first female vice president, demanded a stronger police presence."

On a different topic, Slate attempts to deflect ACORN discussion by providing examples of bad behavior since 1776. They don't mention Obama was paid by ACORN for training, that he then disbursed funding to ACORN while sitting in Ayers' office, and so on.

Those who read only one side of the story, they are not really reading. You do need to question authority.
